The Turbo Prince found happiness in Australia

Saturday Crown Princess Mary turns 50 years old. The anniversary should have been celebrated with a gala dinner at Rosenborg Castle, but the coronavirus has forced the castle to think differently.

That the Crown Princess will be celebrated by her husband and children at home is quite certain. Crown Prince Frederik (53) could not have been happier with the choice of life partner. Mary has given him the family he dreamed of as a child.

My mother raised nannies and governesses. I did not have much to do with my parents until I was 21 years old. When I was little, I was introduced to them, freshly washed and freshly brushed, before I was laid, Frederik said in an interview with the American magazine Parade.

Not ideal

When Queen Margrethe (81) recently announced that she had been on the throne for 50 years on 14 January, she gave an open interview in the TV documentary “A life as a queen”.

Here she confirms that Frederik’s upbringing may not have been entirely ideal.

– I have not spent as much time on the children as they might want (…). I have definitely not been the best mother in the world. I am fully aware of that, says Margrethe.

When the Danish Crown Prince came of age, he had an identity crisis.

Around my own 18th birthday, I was very insecure. I thought my life would end. Now I suddenly had to behave like a full-blooded adult, which was very unpleasant, he explained in the documentary “My way” a few years ago.

– At the same time, no one could tell me what or how things should be done. One lived in a strange, weightless state, he revealed.

Turboprins

The prince rebelled in his own way, and for a while he went by the nickname “Turbo Prince”. But when he was in his early 30s, he met the woman who was to save him – Australian Mary Elizabeth Donaldson (49).

– She was first and foremost a very calm creature, and the way she moved was incredibly fascinating. And then we talked really well together, he said in the book «Under the bar – a portrait of Crown Prince Frederik».

Family man

One of the most important things for the Crown Prince was that his children should have a completely different upbringing than him. The parents ‘love should not be exchanged for the nannies’ attention.

Frederik wanted a wife who put the family first – and he got it in Mary.

I’m a family man – that’s how simple it can be said. Together with the family, I feel most at home, and there I am mostly myself, says Mary herself in the recent photo book “Mary HKH” which came out in January.
