Some gamers feel that this quality in a big-budget game is a sign of trouble, and Starfield will be released as an unfinished product. The lack of 60fps is ostensibly an admission that Bethesda doesn’t have enough time to finalize.
God of War Ragnarok Senior Environment Artist Danny Carlon spoke on this topic, and emphasized that this is not true – the developers decided to offer more beautiful visuals at the expense of frequency:
“I’m a game developer and a big fan, by the way. I wanted to clarify that this does not mean that the game is not over. This is a conscious decision. Getting 60 frames at this scale would degrade the visual quality significantly. My guess is that they want to achieve a uniform look and reduce the “floating” of elements. Of course, you have the right to disagree with this decision.
In a follow-up post, the developer clarified that the game doesn’t have to run in 4K – it could be 1080p at 60fps or variable resolution at 60fps. But Bethesda has made the decision that it wants to deliver 4K at 30fps and offer the best graphics in an adventure of this magnitude.
