According to him, some people use a quartz lamp to prevent viral diseases. But the doctor believes that the effectiveness of this method has not been scientifically proven.
Quartz lamps generate UV radiation that kills fungi, pathogenic microbes and viruses. Before that, in physiotherapy rooms they were used to treat diseases of the nose and throat. However, according to recent research, current use of UV radiation has no effect on the duration of illnesses. In addition, it has a negative effect on the nasal mucosa. As the doctor said, when a quartz lamp interacts with oxygen, ozone is created – a gas that causes the upper respiratory tract.
The expert said that open-type quartz lamps are used to disinfect air and surfaces in medical institutions. They are not suitable for use at home: they cannot be used when people are inside, and if one does not know the rules of quartzing and does not follow safety measures, it can burn to skin or retina of the eyes.
