Children often join PTAs when they enter elementary school. Nowadays, where the majority of households are dual-income households, the environment surrounding children has changed, and the role of PTAs is increasingly being questioned. Negative information such as troubles related to PTAs is sometimes talked about on social media, and in some cases, it seems that the management itself is becoming difficult. Therefore, we conducted a survey regarding PTA. We spoke to Sawako Masushima, the representative of PTA’S, which provides a dedicated support service for PTAs, about the true feelings of parents and the current state of PTAs.

Current status of PTA membership: Approximately 60% of respondents answered that they are not (have not) joined.

The survey will be held on February 19, 2024 on Yahoo! from teens to people in their 60s and above nationwide. It was conducted on 2000 male and female JAPAN users. (Age composition of respondents: 1% in their teens, 4% in their 20s, 12% in their 30s, 28% in their 40s, 34% in their 50s, 19% in their 60s and older, 2% do not want to tell their age)

First, to confirm the current status of PTA membership, we asked, “Are you currently a member of a PTA (or have you been a member of a PTA in the past)?” As a result, more than half of the respondents (58%) answered “Not included (not included)”, which is nearly 60%.

Regarding the reasons for this, many respondents said, “I had no intention of joining in the first place” (32%), “I don’t think it’s necessary” (21%), and “Joining was voluntary” (18%). On the other hand, the reasons for “I’m in it (I was in it)” were “It’s somehow in it” (37%), “My surroundings are in it (it was in it)” (34%), and “I think it’s necessary” (16%). %) was frequently heard.
