The Truth about Complaints of Fraud and Vote Errors in the Argentine Presidential Elections: Dispelling Misinformation and Setting the Record Straight

A few hours after the result of the presidential elections was known, different complaints of possible fraud began to circulate through social networks. The photos of the telegrams with zero votes for Javier Milei generated indignation among supporters of La Libertad Avanza and even mobilized some leaders to sow doubts about the result.

However, the National Electoral Chamber (CNE), the country’s highest electoral court in charge of carrying out the final count, dismissed the complaints of irregularities and revealed eloquent data about the errors in the telegrams.

First of all, it is important to note that the data that appears in the telegrams (that appear in the viral publications) are those that are announced in the provisional scrutiny and have no legal validity, they only report the result. The correct information is in the scrutiny minutes, signed by the polling station authorities and by the party prosecutors. In turn, errors in the telegrams can be corrected in the final scrutiny.

On the other hand, the existence of tables with telegrams with zero votes did not only affect libertarians but all political spaces, whether pro-government or opposition. According to data released by the National Electoral Directorate, La Libertad Avanza had 1,669 telegrams with zero votes, while Unión por la Patria registered 1,652 and Together for Change, 1,675. In total there were 7,061 tables in which some force obtained 0 votes.

The percentage that this number of tables represents over the total number of those enabled to vote is low and, at the same time, balanced between the main candidates.
