The Trump Tower in Midtown would have reduced security after the president leaves office in January – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – President Donald Trump may not be ready to give up the fight for the White House just yet, but the New York City Police Department is already making plans for his scheduled departure in January.

After transferring his residency to Florida in 2019, where he voted in early November, all signs are that he will settle there once his term expires. There is also a decent chance that the president will spend more time at his New Jersey golf club in Bedminster than in town. That will affect the level of police presence that will be found in the Fifth Avenue building after January 20, when President-elect Joe Biden is sworn in.

A senior law enforcement official told our sister network NBC New York that the NYPD is expected to work with the Secret Service to reduce its presence around Trump Tower.

That likely means a freer flow of traffic along Fifth Avenue and a possible reopening of East 56th Street, on the south side of the building. The reduction in security in the area will also be good news for some of the retailers who have been isolated by frequent street closures and protests.

The Secret Service had no comment, nor did the Trump administration.
