The True Fiscal Responsibility: Debunking the Claims of Town Board Candidate Elizabeth Almeyda

I don’t write letters to the editor frequently but I felt the need to respond to the October 6, 2023 letter from Town Board candidate Elizabeth Almeyda. In her letter titled “The difference between me and another candidate for Town Board,” she states that she is the true fiscal conservative of two candidates, herself and Katherine Daniels. Katherine Daniels is currently serving on the Town Board and running for re-election. Citing a July 25, 2023 Town Board meeting where the cost to replace a town garage oil burner was discussed, Almeyda stated that Daniels “did not show a mindset of fiscal responsibility” because she brought up the alternative of geothermal conversion at the town garage with a cost of $98,000 rather than a $6,500 replacement. She urged us all to watch the video.

Let’s not get too far into geothermal conversion here but everyone is aware that they save thousands of dollars in the long run because it eliminates most of the cost of heating oil and natural gas. In fact, there is precedence here as the Town recently received a grant through Assemblymember Chris Burdick to install geothermal heating in the new community center and will be doing so soon.

So I watched this video of the Town Board meeting and I watched as Katherine Daniels seconded the motion to spend $6,500 after she made her well-taken point about geothermal conversion.

Dr. Almeyda, you can call yourself the true fiscal conservative of the two candidates but you missed the mark using this Town Board meeting to make a point about Katherine Daniels and fiscal responsibility.
