The National Association of Fertilizer Manufacturers (Anffe) has shown its concern about the impact that the transport strike is having on the sector at a “key moment”, because after the recent rains multiple crops, especially cereals, require an urgent application of fertilizers. In a statement sent this Thursday, the sector explained that said fertilization is “essential” to meet the nutrient needs of crops and to obtain good agricultural production, even more so at the present time of lack of cereal supply in international markets, due to the war in Ukraine.
They have recalled the efforts of the sector to continue maintaining its productive activity at this time characterized by “extremely high prices for gas, electricity and some raw materials”, in order to meet demand and continue providing products to farmers. According to the employer, the supply of fertilizers to farmers is being “clearly interrupted” for the transport strike due to the “material impossibility” of truck access to factories and ports, and even violent actions perpetrated by some organizers.
Therefore, they have called for “the need for the authorities to adopt a prompt resolution of the conflict of transport to avoid a paralysis of the factories due to lack of supply” of raw materials and to allow the application of fertilizers and thus avoid irreversible damage to the growth of crops and the grain harvest.
