The director’s wife had a hard time.
Leonid Gaidai lived all his life with one woman – Nina Grebeshkova. Before his marriage, the director promised his beloved that he would carry her in his arms, but, having put a stamp in his passport, he forgot about his words.
The eminent filmmaker did not treat his wife in the best way. The director did not even hide that he had a low opinion of the woman who loved him and fully provided for his life.
It seemed that such a famous and beloved director as Gaidai could make Grebeshkova the main star of Soviet cinema. But in the projects of her husband, the artist could only count on episodic roles.
The maestro directly told his wife that she “won’t pull” the primary characters. In addition, Leonid Iovich believed that his wife was not beautiful enough for an actress, which he also informed her more than once, not being afraid to hurt the feelings of his beloved.
