MEXICO CITY, October 12 (EL UNIVERSAL).- Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body does not use it effectively, summarizes an article in the Global magazine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). When a person has diabetes, they explain, they do not absorb glucose properly and it circulates through their body, which can cause serious health problems.
From the Clínica Universidad de La Sabana (Colombia) they specify that there are risk factors that favor the appearance of diabetes, such as family history, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, smoking and high blood pressure. It is for this reason that food occupies a predominant role and is something that we should not neglect.
When a person has diabetes, their blood glucose (sugar) levels are too high and that glucose comes from certain foods called carbohydrates, according to a report from the United States National Institutes of Health. Therefore, their experts explain, choosing the right foods is an important way to keep blood glucose at a level that is healthy.
In this context, we tell you that in your diet you can include a strange tropical fruit that prevents insulin resistance and diabetes. This is chontaduro, a food native to Central and South America that is rich in proteins, starches, vitamin A, Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, calcium, fiber and essential amino acids, according to an article by the World Institute of Gastronomy.
The components contained in chontaduro make it a great ally for health since, as provided by the Department of Chemistry at the Universidad del Valle de Colombia, its high fiber content reduces the speed at which carbohydrates are absorbed. That is why adding it to our diet helps control blood glucose levels and prevents insulin resistance and diabetes.
