The Trinity EV: Volkswagen’s Flagship Electric Car to Challenge Tesla’s Dominance

The first details have appeared about the new electric flagship of Volkswagen – Trinity. The concern calls it “a flagship project to combat Tesla’s dominance in the electric car market.”

Trinity EV’s advantage over American electric cars will be provided by the new SSP software platform, which supports fourth-level autonomous control systems. That is, under certain conditions and in the presence of a well-read marking, the car will move by itself.

The Trinity EV was supposed to be launched in 2026, but shortly after taking office, VW Group CEO Oliver Blum postponed the project.

This is said to be due to problems with the subsidiary Cariad, which is responsible for the development of the software. Another thing that has been speculated is that the delay will reduce the tension and expectations from the new car.

According to Automotive News Europe, series production of the Trinity EV will be established at the Volkswagen plant in Zwickau, Germany. There are no exact dates for the start of production yet.

The electric Golf, the electric Tiguan and the successor Tiguan Allspace will also get the SSP platform. Production of these models will take place at the Wolfsburg factory. Thus, the successor of the Tiguan Allspace will stand on the assembly line in 2025, and a year later it will be joined by the Tiguan EV.
