If you use Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, you can still upgrade to Windows 10 completely free of charge even though Microsoft ended its upgrade offer several years ago. You just have to follow a little trick that will allow you to renew your system without paying a dollar.
As WinCentral reportsThis trick has been around for years, and Microsoft has to know it’s there. But, for some reason, it has not closed the hole that allows the update.
Perhaps the reason is that Microsoft is interested in everyone upgrading to Windows 10 for reasons of security and ease of maintenance of the world’s pool of PCs. This is especially true knowing that Windows 7 reached the end of its useful life last year.
But if so, why not keep the original update active? We have no idea.
How to get Windows 10 totally free
First of all, to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, you must have an activated Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license installed on your PC. If so, follow these steps:
- Use the Microsoft Windows 10 Media creation tool to create a bootable USB.
- Restart your PC and use the bootable USB to upgrade to Windows 10.
- Once it has been upgraded to Windows 10, sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Go to Settings> Update> Activation. You should see that Windows 10 is activated.
- If not, click “Activate PC”.
- Enter your original Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 activation key.
- Ready
As you can see, all this is done within Windows 10, using official Microsoft tools, without suspicious or illegal methods. The simplicity of the operation could be confirmation that Microsoft knows that all this works like this and has chosen to do nothing to plug the hole.
