Yustyna Kovalchyk is a cross-country skiing star from Poland. At one time, she won the Olympics, the World Championship, and also took the World Cup several times.

At the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Kovalchik not only competed with a broken foot, she also lost a child a year before the tournament. The games in Sochi made it possible for the athlete to forget, to throw out all the pain that had accumulated after the loss of a child. And it helped. Later, Justina even regretted that she was visited by negative thoughts related to her life.

“Thinking about my illness, the only thing that comes to my mind now is how stupid it was. It was foolish to think that I did not want to live. It was foolish to think that I interfere with everyone. That I don’t need, Kowalczyk told SportoweFakty.

As a result, Kowalczyk ran to the 2018 Olympics, and unexpectedly made a comeback at the 2019 World Championships. In Oberstdorf, the Polish woman ran the relay race and the team sprint. Later, Justyna worked as an assistant head coach of the Polish women’s cross-country skiing team, and also served as the sports director of the Polish Biathlon Association.

Already after the end of her career, Kowalczyk found family happiness. In 2019, she met a climber Kacper Tekieli. Relations developed so rapidly that the couple got married in 2020. The skier took a double surname and became Kowalczyk-Tekieli.

Soon the couple had a son, who was named Hugo.

In social networks, Kowalczyk shared moments of her family life. She looked very happy, enjoying what she had. I didn’t give up sports either. Tekieli infected her with mountaineering, and Kovalchik infected him with cross-country skiing. Sometimes their son was with them.

Tekieli made the next ascent without his family nearby. Husband Kowalczyk climbed Bishorn, Weismis and Lugginhorn. The climber shared his successes in social networks. Everything was supposed to go smoothly, but he failed to complete what he started due to an avalanche. The body of 38-year-old Tekieli was found in the Jungrfrau region in the Swiss Alps.

After the death of her beloved, Kovalchik did not give any comments, publishing only a joint photo with Katsper, accompanying it with the caption: “He was everything to me.”
