How Semenchenko reacted

Semenchenko himself called the case a provocation of the Russian special services. He claims that the suspects have nothing to do with the weapons found.

It’s not my fault. My comrades are innocent. Everything that is happening now is, I repeat, a Russian special operation. The goal is our work, which we are doing abroad, which is directed against Wagner PMC,
– noted Semenchenko.

In addition, the suspect denied that he was hiding from the investigation, assuring that he had come for interrogation at the SBU himself.

Semenchenko’s defense stated that there was no evidence of his involvement in the case. Prosecutor Andrei Sinyuk asked the suspect for the precaution they had chosen.

What is Shevchenko’s reaction

Shevchenko was taken into custody right in the courtroom. He managed to say that he has no money for the deposit, but he is counting on the help of his friends. Shevchenko also said that he “was engaged in peaceful activities” and did not violate the law.

Prosecutor of the Office of the Prosecutor General Andriy Sinyuk asked to send Shevchenko to a pre-trial detention center without the right to be released on bail. He argued that Shevchenko could influence witnesses and hide from the investigation. The defense intends file an appeal against a court decision.

Note that earlier the SBU had already informed Semenchenko of the suspicion. Together with him, Shevchenko received suspicion.

What is Semenchenko accused of

  • According to the SBU, ex-People’s Deputy Semyon Semenchenko and Yevgeny Shevchenko organized a “private military company.”
  • Also Semenchenko and Shevchenko are suspected of a possible organization of an illegal scheme for import outside customs control of military spare parts and goods from Russia. Subsequently, they were allegedly sold to state-owned defense enterprises at inflated prices.

March 24 SBU denied information, which was previously published by the media and some politicians, Shevchenko and Semenchenko have already been detained. According to the press secretary of the Security Service Artem Dekhtyarenko, the defendants in the case were only informed of the suspicion.

Preventive measures for other defendants in the case

On March 25, the Pechersk Court of Kiev chose a preventive measure 3 defendants in the case on the creation of an illegal paramilitary group.

Suspects Alexander Novikov, Sergei Akimovich and Igor Orlenko were released from custody in the courtroom and sent to house arrest around the clock.
