Libreville, Monday November 13, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – By press release n°26 published this Monday, the Minister Delegate to the Presidency of the Republic and spokesperson for the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, gave the main dates of the process initiated since August 30, 2023. The elections scheduled for August 2025 will mark the end of the Transition.
“The Transition Committee for the Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) officially announces the timetable for the political transition in Gabon following its adoption during the last Council of Ministers. This timeline is an essential step towards achieving the 06 ambitious objectives of the transition centered on the restoration of stability, institutional reform, the fight against corruption, sustainable development, education as well as national dialogue and public consultation .
The CTRI would like to point out that this timeline is an indicative project whose final adoption will be up to the inclusive national dialogue. The main stages of this process are as follows:
-September 2023: meeting with the driving forces of the Nation;
-September to October 2023: establishment of transition institutions;
-From October 9 to November 30, 2023: call for contributions and collection by a special secretariat;
-December 2023: inventory of problems and summary of proposals.
-January 2024: restitution and enrichment of the report;
-End of February 2024: adoption of the final summary;
-April 2024: inclusive national dialogue under the presidency of the Archbishop of Libreville;
-Beginning of June 2024: transformation of Parliament into a constituent body;
-End of August 2024, presentation of the first version of the future constitution;
-End of October 2024: adoption of the final draft constitution;
-Between November and December 2024: referendum for the adoption of the new constitution.
-Beginning of 2025: work on the new electoral code and adoption by parliament;
-April 2025: revision of the electoral list;
-July 2025: distribution of voter cards;
-August 2025: election, end of the transition.
The CTRI reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing a transparent, efficient and inclusive electoral process. This timeline aims to actively involve the Gabonese people in a democratic decision-making process through a series of crucial stages. This transition represents a historic moment for our country, a decisive step and a better future for all Gabonese people.
NB: the steps mentioned in this timeline are subject to modification following the results of the inclusive national dialogue.
