the transformation you would not have expected to see

WhatsApp goes through important changes of functionality every few weeks. The latest one has just arrived online and, although it is only available in beta, it shouldn’t take long for it to reach the large mass of users.

Many users have one problem with WhatsApp, because of the way it handled user data security. Now, the company owned by Facebook is trying to wash away their sins and introduce a series of options that will make you more comfortable with WhatsApp. It wants to do a better job of preventing users from migrating to Telegram and Signal.

WhatsApp emphasizes your privacy

A few years ago, WhatsApp introduced a mechanism through which you could change who sees your profile picture, the About section and, most importantly, when you were last online (Last Seen). That information could be accessible to everyone – Everyone, contacts – My Contacts or nobody – Nobody.

The options were reasonable, but it would have been nice to have a little more flexibility. This is exactly what a new version addresses whatsapp beta which WaBetaInfo had the opportunity to experience. As you can see in the screenshot below, in addition to the options mentioned above, there is now an additional option called My Contacts Except (My Contacts Except…). You access that menu and you will be able to define with Swiss precision which of your contacts you wish they could never find out when you were online.

Currently, the new feature has been introduced in the beta version of WhatsApp for iPhone, but it should not take long until it reaches both iOS and Android. It is also important to note that the restriction will apply to both the profile photo and the completed information on the About screen. Predictably, if someone can’t see that information for you, you can’t see it for him either.
