The transformation of the space under the sports hall goes to the next phase

“We want to make the best use of the space under the sports hall. Our goal is to build a functional new district within this area, which will contribute to improving the quality of life of the population. We would like to create a new public space in the given locality, design sports, cultural, residential and commercial areas so that the space is attractive all day long. I am convinced that this location will significantly increase the attractiveness of the city center and at the same time suitably complement the planned reconstruction of the Large Cinema, which is in the immediate vicinity, “said Pavel Brada, Deputy Minister for Property and Development.

From a previous survey among city residents and companies, there were suggestions for the use of 2.5 hectares of land, which is 100% owned by the city. Among them were, for example, a large parking house, small apartments, an aqua park, a veterans museum and more.

THE COMPETITION WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN SEPTEMBER

The exact wording of the competition will be further specified, however, the list of main intentions for the competition is already known. When creating the plan, the authors of the design should take into account, for example, a museum according to the investor’s requirements, the possibility of a training sports hall, alternatively supplementing a multi-purpose building and other buildings to complement the functionality of the site. It is necessary to solve the parking capacity not only for the location, but also usable for the surroundings.

The announcement of the competition itself should take place in September.

“We expect the evaluation at the beginning of December. In 2021, we could present a winning proposal to the public. The city of Zlín, as the contracting authority, prefers the location of several smaller buildings in a given locality, which should be interconnected, “concluded Tomáš Melzer.
