The Transfer of Kadyrovtsy to Defend Bakhmut: Failures in Maryinka and the Ukrainian Army’s Advance

“Kadyrovtsy” are being transferred to Bakhmut from Maryinka, where their advance in a few months amounted to only two hundred meters.

The head of Chechnya, Kadyrov, announced the dispatch of the Akhmat special forces to defend Bakhmut. Their previous task – to take the city of Maryinka in the Donetsk region of Ukraine – the fighters of the Chechen unit could not fulfill. The successes of the “tik-tok-division” of the Kadyrovites, as they call it on the Web, have become the object of ridicule even by Russian military correspondents, according to whom in Maryinka, after the approach of the Chechen units, the advance of the invaders was only 200 meters.

Kadyrov wrote on his Telegram channel on Sunday that the Akhmat special forces, led by its commander Apty Alaudinov, were “deployed by the command of the special operation to the difficult Bakhmut direction,” notes “Agency“.

The announcement of the transfer came amid news of the advance of the Ukrainian army, which took part of the heights north of Klescheevka, between this village and Bakhmut. The pro-Russian channel WarGonzo claims that if the UAF develops success, the Russian army will probably have to retreat from Kleshcheevka. The Bakhmut area is one of the three main directions of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that began a month ago, which are also attacking in the Zaporozhye region and on the western border of the Donetsk region.

Prior to this, Chechen units were transferred near Marinka and, as Akhmat head Alaudinov said, they were given the task of occupying this city. And on June 2, Kadyrov reported that the Kadyrovites, together with the regular Russian military, allegedly occupied 70% of this city. However, as the founder of the Conflict Intelligence team Ruslan Leviev noted in a report dated June 2, six months earlier, in mid-December 2022, the leader of the “DPR” Pushilin announced the capture of 80% of Maryinka.

By July 10, Maryinka had still not been taken, and there were no major changes in this sector of the front with the appearance of Chechen units, Kirill Mikhailov, an OSINT analyst, told the Agency. Voenkor Vladimir Romanov wrote that thanks to the appearance of a “famous unit” in this area, the advance was 200 meters.

In mid-June, the Akhmat special forces announced that they would guard the border in the Belgorod region. This statement was made after sabotage groups entered the territory of the region from the territory of Ukraine. They captured the settlements in the region. Since the appearance of the Kadyrovites, there have been no battles on the territory of the region, Mikhailov and Belgorod journalist Nikita Parmenov told the Agency.

The Belgorod channel “Pepel”, citing the military, reported that the Kadyrovites of the Akhmat regiment occupied “at best, 3-5 defense echelons,” and Russian conscripts were stationed at the first and second lines in the immediate vicinity of the border. Against this background, the Belgorod governor Gladkov promised to distribute weapons to the fighters of the territorial defense. The law does not allow this, but Gladkov said that this problem would be solved.

Earlier, the Marines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine knocked out the Russians from a mega-fortified position near Bakhmut.
