Where can graduates work?
Paramedics with the third degree of professional qualification can work in ambulances of emergency medical care centers, in emergency reception departments of medical facilities, in emergency response services and in all units and areas where it is necessary to provide this type of assistance. The profession is dynamic, responsible and in demand.
What does the preparation involve?
“The curriculum includes 1,000 hours of training, of which 550 are practical – in the ambulances, and 450 are theory, with which we will familiarize the students with the main parameters in medicine – anatomy, physiology, how emergency medical care is provided. They will get very well trained in various specialties that are related to emergency medicine. And above all, they will acquire first aid skills. They will know how to respond to a patient with cardiac arrest and breathing. In addition, we will train them how to perform splinting, how to stop bleeding, what is the behavior in case of trauma to the head, the spine, including childbirth,” explained Prof. Bozov.
To date, the university has trained three courses of paramedics, who actively work in CSMP ambulances and emergency centers.
“There is a great need for medical specialties. Therefore, I urge those who want to practice medicine to apply to our university. Currently, the candidate-student campaign is underway, and the exams will be held in June,” Prof. Bozov added.
The opening was attended by both graduates and future students. The chairman of the Union of Paramedics in Bulgaria, Iva Pehlivanska, who is also a graduate of the University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”.
“Each of the teachers will enter your classes with the greatest desire to pass on their experience to you. Regardless of whether you stay in this profession, the skills you will gain here will be invaluable to you and everyone around you,” she shared.
Some of the paramedic graduates continue their studies in the “Medical Assistant” specialty.
“For us, this specialty is an upgrade level and it is good for every paramedic to complete it,” said student Nevena Kostova. She currently works in the Emergency Department and applies the skills she learned at university every day.
