The training at the Sorting Station will simulate an ecological disaster on the railway; residents are urged not to worry / Article / LSM.lv

On Thursday, July 23, SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” (LDz) will organize large-scale exercises at Šķirotava station, which will test the readiness and ability of operational services to cooperate with each other to prevent an ecological disaster on the public railway infrastructure, the company’s representative Ella Pētermane informed.

In order to check the readiness of the participants involved in the Civil Protection System for coordinated action and strengthen cooperation in disaster management, the training will be attended not only by a large number of LDz employees, but also by the State Fire and Rescue Service, the 1st Riga Brigade, the State Police, the Riga Municipal Police and the State Environmental service staff.

During the training, the derailment of a tank with dangerous goods will be simulated, as a result of which a dangerous substance has leaked from the tank and ignited.

The task of the operational services will be to locate and extinguish the fire, to locate the leakage of dangerous goods from the tank and eliminate its consequences, to pump the remaining dangerous goods from the damaged tank into the valid tank, as well as to put the rolling stock on the rails according to certain requirements.

Training at the Sorting Station will start at 10 am.

LDz urges the residents not to worry, because during the training the ecological catastrophe will be imitated and no danger will be created to the environment or the residents.
