The comic strip artist Morris, who documented himself during a stay in New York, describes the Daltons as “real idiots”who were planning attacks that brought them almost nothing, a gold mine for a story intended for children!
The real Daltons were born into a family of 15 children: 10 sons and 5 daughters. They will know the fate of those who experienced the Conquest of the West. Their father was an Irish immigrant who settled in Coffeyville, Kansas. The mother belongs to the family of James and Younger, desperadoes who ransomed the entire western United States.

The little Daltons are at a good school, with uncles who are all… gunslingers! They still start their lives very honestly. At the instigation of their brother Franck, who is sheriffBob, Grat and Emmett in turn join the police, and become Deputy marshall. For several years, they tracked down whiskey and arms traffickers in the name of the law.
Then they gradually encroach on the margins of legality, dabbling in small schemes, and show themselves to be quite clever. While infiltrating a gang of thugs, Franck is shot dead by a trafficker. It’s a trigger. The death of their brother will lead the Daltons into a more criminal life.
The Daltons, the haunting of Kansas
One night in 1891, the Dalton brothers attacked their first train as a challenge. The loot is lousy, a few dollars. It was the beginning of a long series of attacks on trains and stagecoaches. In 1892, with his brothers and accomplices, Bob Dalton had the audacity to attack two banks in broad daylight at the same time in their hometown of Coffeyville. What our gangsters don’t know is that they have been recognized, despite their fake beards.
The robbery is more difficult in one of the two banks. The employee complains, claiming that the establishment is not yet open! They wait, and these three minutes will be fateful.
