The Tragic Shooting and Request for Brain Study: Charles Whitman’s 1966 University of Texas Clock Tower Attack

On August 1, 1966, former US Marine Charles Whitman stabbed his wife and mother, then armed himself with several weapons, climbed the University of Texas Clock Tower and shot and killed 14 people and wounded 31 more in 90 minutes. In the note, he wrote that he had recently been tormented by incomprehensible and irrational thoughts that he can no longer suppress, so after his death he asks scientists to study his brain.
