Actress Veronika Nikonova became famous at the age of 14 when she played in the film “Brest Fortress” directed by Alexander Kott. After the starring role, she wanted to enter GITIS and continue her acting career, but with age she changed her mind and decided to become a documentary filmmaker.
The girl led an active lifestyle, traveled a lot in the USA and Europe, spent several years in Bali. On one of her trips, Veronika met an activist from Belarus, Piotr Markelov, whom she married in 2019.
After the wedding, the young couple decided to follow the route of the famous traveler to Alaska. Unfortunately, the extreme trip of Veronica and Peter ended in tragedy. While crossing the river, the girl lost her balance and fell into the water. A heavy backpack pulled her to the bottom. Markelov managed to pull his wife out of the water and for a long time tried to give her artificial respiration, but it was too late.
Veronica Nikonova was only 24 years old. Her mother told reporters that her daughter’s body was cremated in the United States.
