Lit with Trusova in Australia
Polischuk started rollerblading at the age of three. Parents immediately saw how well Sophia did it, so at the age of four they sent her to the figure skating section. The girl’s mother herself was closely connected with sports, so she encouraged her daughter’s hobbies. In parallel with figure skating, Polishchuk was engaged in vocals and Russian folk dances, but still chose ice.
Gradually, the first successes began to appear. Sophia chose ice dancing, entered the national team of Moscow and Russia, and soon began to perform at international competitions. Together with Alexander Vakhnov, they have come a long way from sports development to prizes at the stages of the Junior Grand Prix.
In 2017 came the first major victory in the competition in Australia. By the way, the future silver medalist of the Beijing Olympics Alexandra Trusova, who won the tournament in women’s single skating, also shone there. In general, Polishchuk’s prospects were excellent, but in the same 2017, a terrible story happened to the young figure skater.

The story that changed her career?
It was in September, when Sophia was returning home from training. A young man approached the 17-year-old athlete, who turned out to be her peers and good friends. They used to be friends, communicated well and, perhaps, even had feelings for each other. An acquaintance tried to take away Polishchuk’s phone, because there were supposedly photos of the figure skater with other guys. They were driven by jealousy.
The girl didn’t like it. She did not want to give up the phone and was clearly annoyed by the behavior of her former friend. The guy got angry and did not think of anything better than to use physical force. He hit the athlete in the face and grabbed her by the throat, trying to strangle her.
Fortunately, Sophia managed to escape and escape from the guy. After the incident, she went to the medical center, where bodily injuries were recorded. Later, Polishchuk filed a complaint against the attacker with the police, while the name of the young man was never disclosed to the public.
The figure skater’s mother Marina Polishchuk admitted in an interview with Channel Five that the guy’s father apologized and promised to “control everything.” After this incident, Sophia managed to return to figure skating, but her career went down rather than up. Progress has stalled.
At the end of that season, their couple with Vakhnov broke up. The athlete decided to work with German Shamraev, but due to the lack of great achievements, she ended her career after a while. It is difficult to say what would have happened to Sophia in figure skating if that ill-fated attack had not happened. The girl herself preferred not to comment or recall the story, which, of course, is quite understandable.
