“It’s not an insult. This is a mockery of people’s memory! ”This is what a blackened father said on BTV – Dimitar Dimitrov, who lost his son in the tragedy in Gorni Lom almost 8 years ago, for which no one is to blame. A man who is determined to face the whole world for the memory of his child.
On October 1, 2014, a powerful explosion knocked down workshop C for recycling at the Midzhur plant. 15 people from the shift died, two others were injured.
Two years later, the case of the explosion went to court in Vidin – a volume of 180 volumes, with nearly 200 witnesses and dozens of experts. The charges are against a former head of a security police department, a former secretary at the Ministry of Economy and responsible for occupational safety at the plant. The then owner of the plant, Valeri Mitkov, whose son is among the dead, is also accused.
The Vidin court kept the case secret due to documents with state secrets and acquitted him 4 years later. An appeal followed, and two years later the Sofia Court of Appeals upheld the decision.
Now, seven and a half years after the tragedy, the Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) is saying the same thing – innocent.
“The main reason for this decision of the Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) and previous instances is a poorly prepared indictment by the prosecutor’s office,” the blackened father said in an interview with This Sunday.
The responsible persons are in much higher positions than those who were accused, Dimitrov is categorical.
