In the heart of Székesfehérvár, on Palotai kapu Square, a special New Year’s tradition comes to life every year. The goulash cannons of the Hungarian Armed Forces and the pots of the local Lecsóház filled to the brim with delicious, lucky lentils awaited on the afternoon of January 1st to be consumed together by the inhabitants of the city.
As every year, mayor András Cser-Palkovics opened the event, where many people gathered in long lines and waited to eat the lentil stew, not only to nourish their bodies, but also their souls. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by the news that Sarolta Kovács, the pride of the city, Olympic bronze medalist and world champion pentathlete, announced her retirement. The gathered crowd thanked him for his achievements and work with a long standing ovation.
Tamás Vargha, member of parliament of Székesfehérvár, thanked the soldiers of the 51st News and Guidance Brigade of MH József Nagysándor Székesfehérvár for the 1000 servings of mouth-watering food, which were cooked in the military goulash cannons.
