news-teaser">

If you pay attention, you will notice that trading is almost always possible. Trading takes place on any of the international stock exchanges at almost any time of the day or night. Whether New York, London, Frankfurt or Shanghai. If you want, you don’t have to miss anything.

• Uniformity of the European markets
• Trading-Hours in New York
• Later trade in Asia

European and British trade: Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna and London

Anyone who deals with the European markets has a great advantage in terms of trading hours. With the exception of Great Britain and Ireland, the markets involved are all in the same time zone.

Trading takes place on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Before 9 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m., however, we are talking about before and after trading, compared to the main trading hours in between. Trading is possible on XETRA, Deutsche Börse’s fully electronic trading system, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The main trading time on the Zurich Stock Exchange is between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., just like in Frankfurt, but if you include pre- and after-hours trading, a trading day runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Including the pre- and post-trading times, the Vienna Stock Exchange is active from 8 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. However, the core trading hours in Vienna are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The London Stock Exchange is in close proximity to the fairly uniform European markets. Trading in London is between 8am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Correspondingly from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. German time.

US Trading: Overseas trading hours

The New York Stock Exchange is probably the best-known and largest stock exchange in the world. However, it is not the only New York stock exchange. Equally well known, at least by those who deal more intensively with the markets, is the Nasdaq. It is the largest electronic stock exchange in the USA.

Trading on the New York Stock Exchange runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time. The same is true on the Nasdaq, where trading also takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time – excluding pre- and after-hours trading – i.e. from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. German time.

The Asian markets: Japan, China and Hong Kong

Except for a short break between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., the Tokyo Stock Exchange is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Since Japan is 7 hours ahead of Germany due to the time difference, the trading hours here are between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. in the morning.

The largest stock exchange in China is the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The main trading hours here are from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time.

One of the world’s best-known stock exchanges from Asia is certainly the one in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Exchange there offers trading from 9:30 in the morning to 4:00 p.m.
