The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, put a “block” on the farmers going down with their tractors in Athens during their meeting, and suggested that they go down with buses and cars. However, they themselves keep the tractor engines warm as they are willing to bypass the directive and explained that on Tuesday, as it has been decided, they will go down to Athens with the tractors as well.
“We will go down”
“We informed the minister about the new decision of all blocs to hold a rally in Athens and with tractors and buses a very large rally on Tuesday to highlight the problems that the government has not satisfied and that is why we are continuing this mobilization and we are still on the road. The answer we got in the first phase is negative in relation to the tractors in Athens for the descent. But we believe that the government will reconsider and as in all European countries there were similar movements, the same will happen in our country”, said Rizos Maroudas, representative of the Larissa block, after the meeting.
“Today we declare that we will implement the decision we made in Nice on Tuesday, we will start with tractors, buses and cars and we will descend on Athens for this big rally in which we call on the people of the capital to fight this battle together, because our victory will also be a victory for the people to have cheaper products on their table. We don’t know what the government’s choice is. We believe that there should be tractors in Athens, it is the only possible solution for everyone. We have already collected a good number of tractors and will collect more. We have a lot of blocks and tractors and we will see how all the regions will participate. This is our decision,” he added.
Concourses and closed roads
At the same time, their mobilizations continue, while meetings are held in the blocks to inform the participants about their next actions and the descent to Athens.
A new agricultural rally was organized in Agia Larissa, while Macedonian farmers and breeders proceeded to blockade the “Niki” customs office in Florina on the border with North Macedonia, for all trucks until 3 pm.
In Agia, tractors and agricultural machinery flooded the center of the city of P.E. Larisa. The farmers of the area point out that in the framework of the demands of the gathering, in addition to the central demands for reducing production costs, etc. they include the issue of Daniel’s compensations for apple producers in the area, the change in ELGA’s regulations regarding chestnut crops, dealing with the phenomenon of Greekization of apples from other countries, etc.
