The Toyota Mirai: Revolutionizing Hydrogen Propulsion Technology and Futuristic Design

The Toyota Mirai wants to bring hydrogen propulsion to the masses, being one of the few production cars that run on this fuel.

Toyota isn’t exactly a fan of battery electric cars, but that’s no secret. The Japanese manufacturer relies heavily on its hybrid models, but also on hydrogen cell propulsion technology. The Mirai is among the two hydrogen-powered production cars and is an interesting alternative to battery-powered electrics.

The Toyota Mirai is built on the platform of the Lexus LS, but does not have a thermal engine. Instead, under the futuristic-looking body, 3 tanks are mounted, which have a capacity of 5.6 kilograms. They are filled with hydrogen and feed the electrochemical cells that produce electricity. It ends up in a battery pack, where it is stored for certain situations, but also in the 182 hp electric motor, mounted on the rear axle. With a full tank of hydrogen, the Toyota Mirai can travel up to 650 kilometers. The only waste product of this system is water, which the machine removes through an exhaust mounted underneath.

The Toyota Mirai has a futuristic look, as does the undercarriage

The car is slightly larger than a BMW 5 Series, for example, and has the largest headlights with LED technology ever fitted to a Toyota model. In addition, the air entering through the front grille is purified by 90-100%. This means that the water discharged is potable.

The futuristic theme continues inside, but there are plenty of controls that those who have driven Toyota cars before will be familiar with. The car has a lot of soft materials and comfort features, such as electric, heated and ventilated seats, as well as a heated steering wheel. In addition, the steering column has electric adjustments.

In the back, passengers have heated and ventilated seats, as well as climate controls. The seat is well contoured for the human body and, unlike some electric cars, where the floor is high and creates an uncomfortable position, this is not the case with the Mirai.
