the town hall briefly occupied by the DAL against the eviction of tenants

About twenty people briefly occupied the town hall of Bagnolet this Tuesday morning, to protest against the eviction of several tenants in the city. The town hall agreed to a meeting.

The action began shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Members of the DAL (Right to Housing) and families temporarily occupied the town hall of Bagnolet, in Seine-Saint-Denis, in support of three tenants threatened with eviction since June 1, with the end of the winter break.

The DAL denounces in particular the situation of a family of seven: a widowed mother with three school children, as well as her sister and her two disabled children. The association had already mobilized on Wednesday June 2 against the expulsion of this family, rue Edouard Vaillant in Bagnolet.

Unfortunately, we note that the resumption of evictions started very strongly, points to Passynia Mondo, DAL activist. Tenants risk finding themselves on the street overnight, without a solution, even though procedures are underway and some have their rents up to date.

“People are evicted without rehousing, it’s unacceptable”

The association puts forward several demands. “We first ask for the intervention of the town hall of Bagnolet with the prefecture to suspend the expulsion of the families we are defending, explains Passynia Mondo. We are also asking for relocations.

We will continue our anti-eviction actions

Finally, we are asking to put in place measures within the town hall, as in Stains, with an anti-eviction order, in order to obtain additional time for families.“, adds the activist. “People are evicted without rehousing, it is unacceptable, he continues. We will continue our anti-eviction actions.

As for the action this morning, the occupation – led by about 20 people – was brief. After half an hour on the spot, the town hall agreed to receive the DAL and the families this Tuesday afternoon.
