/ world today news/ The Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents demands that the Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova resign due to “lack of professional competence and administrative capacity to deal with the deepening problems of Bulgarian tourism”, reports “Dnevnik”.
According to tour operators, data on the number of foreign tourists are exaggerated, national tourism advertising lacks a strategic vision, tourism marketing is chaotic, there is also a lack of marketing activities in mobile formats and on social platforms.
Tour operators claim that public opinion is systematically manipulated about the true state of incoming tourism in Bulgaria with erroneous data on the number of foreign tourists, significantly exceeding the real number.
They assess the state of the national tourist portal as catastrophic and note that since the beginning of 2015 it has been inactive. According to the organization, the Bulgarian state supports the advertising campaigns of foreign tour operators with its own funds, there is a lack of transparency in the procedure and criteria for selecting the recipients of state aid, free competition is violated as foreign economic entities are placed in a more favorable position compared to Bulgarian tour operators.
The organization is outraged that the introduction of the automated Single Tourist Information System ESTI, which was expected to become a key tool in the fight against the shadow economy, continues to be unacceptably delayed.
