The Torrero Venecia Neighborhood Association celebrates one more year the Conference ‘The other stories’, that come this 2021 to its 17th edition and that serve to start up the group after a year with little activity as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The talks and presentations this year are accompanied by an exhibition at the association’s premises, which includes photos from the 1930s and plans that locate those shot in the neighborhood in the Civil War.
“These activities serve to get people out of the house and build a neighborhood”, declares Javier Grassa, a member of the association, who assures that the residents of Torrero wanted to return to normality and, specifically, there was a desire for these days that “already have a fixed audience and very interested in the subject.”
The Conference began on December 1, with the inauguration of the exhibition by historians Luis Germán, Herminio Lafoz and Iván Heredia and was well received, according to Grassa.
The rest of the talks and presentations will take place from December 13 to 17 in the premises that is located on Granada street (number 43) of the capital – starting at 7:30 p.m. -, except for the one scheduled for Friday, December 17, which will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Venice Room (Lasierra Purroy street, 3). This change of location corresponds to the forecasts made by the association of a large influx of public. The event will be both a tribute and presentation of Nano Grassa’s book on Clara and Pavel Thaelman and the Rojava revolution.
“Nano Grassa was a colleague from the association, a neighbor of the neighborhood who, before dying in the Himalayas, left a printed book about his experiences in Rojava where he was fighting at the press. We believe that by being known in the neighborhood, a lot of people will come, ”says Javier Grassa.
