The Top Gun expansion to Microsoft Flight Simulator is delayed

Asobo Studio, which develops the new Microsoft Flight Simulator, is developing a free Top Gun-themed expansion to be released in conjunction with the theatrical release of Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 Tom Cruise mega-hit.

The film company Paramount Pictures has now chosen to postpone the launch of the film from November this year to May 2022, and the expansion will follow, reports MS Poweruser. This is of course due to the ongoing pandemic and the risk of not being able to fill the cinemas.

The expansion includes a model of the F / A-18E Super Hornet fighter jet, the modern version of the F / A-18 Hornet which in turn replaced the F-14 Tomcat that Tom Cruise flew in the original Top Gun.

Tom Cruise also has the lead role in the new film, but according to Screenrant was not allowed to fly real Super Hornet. Instead, he flew a P-51 Mustang (an aircraft already in Flight Simulator), while US Navy pilots flew the scenes with the modern fighter jet.
