Talking about trees, of course it’s not surprising if they can have a very high size. With roots firmly planted in the ground, these trees have grown tall over time.
So, what trees are among the tallest in the world? Here are some of them!
List of Tallest Trees in the World
1. Hyperion
Hyperion is a coastal redwood (sequoia sempervirens). Quoting TreeHugger, this tree is recorded by Guinness World Records as the tallest in the world.
First discovered in 2006, Hyperion has a height of 380 feet and 9.7 inches or about 116.07 meters. This figure is estimated to be higher when compared to a 35-storey building.
This skyscraper tree is estimated to be between 700 and 800 years old. If it weren’t for the damage done by the woodpecker, Hyperion might have grown even taller.
2. Tower
This tropical tree has a size of about 330 feet or 100.8 meters. Quoting Live Science, its very high shape makes scientists know it by the name ‘Tower’.
Menara is a type of tropical tree known as Yellow Meranti (Shorea Faguetiana). The species is a member of the Dipterocarpaceae which thrives in the rainforests of the humid plains of Southeast Asia.
3. Centurion
Next is Centurion. Located in the Arve Valley, Australia, this Eucalyptus regnans tree is known as one of the tallest in the world.
The height itself reaches 327.5 feet or about 100 meters. Besides that, Centurion is also claimed to have a prominent popularity in its status as the tallest tree.
4. Doerner Fir
Doerner Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is in Coos County, Oregon. At 327 feet (99.7 meters) tall, this tree is neck and neck with the Centurion.
Looking at its history, the Doerner Fir was discovered around 1989. The name itself is said to have been taken from the name of a local community with whom they have a relationship.
5. Raven’s Tower
The original location of Raven’s Tower is a secret. However, it is located in the Prairie Creek Redwood State Park area, Northern California.
Found by Michael Taylor around 2001, Raven’s Tower has a height of 317 feet or about 96.7 meters. This places it as one of the tallest trees in the world.
