Having a roster with a lot of depth is essential for the passage of the NBA regular season. The more players you have, you can make greater rotations and prevent your team from becoming more worn out at the end of the harvest, but when push comes to shove, the decisive factor to transcend the postseason is having a powerful quintet.
We can see this example during the Playoffs, where teams shorten their rotations from 10 to just six or seven most trusted basketball players. This means that teams that have a better quintet have a better chance of lifting the league champion trophy.
In this order of ideas and with less than a week left to start the 2023-24 campaign, we are going to analyze which are the five best quintets in the entire NBA.
Initial quintet: Ja Morant, Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr. y Steven Adams.
For the Memphis Grizzlies to be able to see this quintet on the court, they will have to be patient. The bear cubs will not be able to count on Ja Morant for the first 25 games of the campaign, after the sanction imposed on him by the NBA for resorting to improper carrying of weapons.
Still, when Memphis gets Morant back it will be a real spectacle. This team will have one of the best defensive quintets in the league. The strength of Adams and Jackson Jr. around the rim and the tenacity of Smart and Bane will make attacking the Grizzlies a real nightmare.
