The TOP 10 Longest Flights in the World (2023) – Rankings by Great Circle Distance in Kilometers

Using data from airline schedulesOAG (Official Aviation Guide) has published its TOP 10 longest flights in July 2023, ranking them by great circle distance in kilometers.

1. The longest flight in the world: from New York-John F. Kennedy (JFK) to Singapore Changi (SIN)
Distance : 15 332 km
Airline: Singapore Airlines
Aircraft: Airbus A350-900
New York-JFK – Singapore Changi is currently the longest commercial flight that can be booked. At 15,332km, this route has topped the charts since 2021 and takes an average of 18 hours and 40 minutes to complete.

2. New York-Newark Liberty International (EWR) to Singapore Changi (SIN)
Distance : 15 329 km
Airline: Singapore Airlines
Aircraft: Airbus A350-900
Offering direct connections to other Asian countries and Australia, Singapore Changi is also on the second longest air route in 2023. In fact, the New York-Newark–Changi route is only 3 km shorter than the longest route, and until Singapore Airlines introduced flights from New York-JFK to Singapore, it was the world’s longest route from 2004 to 2013 and again from 2018 to 2020.

3. Perth (PER) – Londres-Heathrow (LHR)
Distance : 14 499 km
Airline: Qantas Airways
Avion : Boeing 787-9
With an expected flight time of 17 hours and 45 minutes, it is the only top 10 route that features a European airport, as Qantas’ Darwin–Heathrow route, which was in 8th place last year, is not currently in service.

4. Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) – Melbourne (MEL)
Distance : 14 468 km
Airline: Qantas Airways
Avion : Boeing 787-9
The flight from Dallas to Melbourne takes 17 hours 35 minutes.

5. Auckland International (AKL) – New York-John F. Kennedy
Distance : 14 209 km
Airline: Air New Zealand, Qantas
Avion : Boeing 787-9
Launched in 2022, it is Air New Zealand’s first route offering non-stop flights to New York. The estimated flight time is 16 hours 15 minutes. In 2023, Qantas entered the AKL-JFK market, introducing competition for Air New Zealand.

6. Auckland International (AKL) – Dubaï International (DXB)
Distance : 14 193 km
Airline: Emirates
Airplane: Airbus A380-800
In 2016, it was the longest flight in the world with 14,193 km. The flight lasts 17 hours and 5 minutes.

7. Los Angeles (LAX) – Singapore Changi (SIN)
Distance : 14 096 km
Airline: Singapore Airlines
Aircraft: Airbus A350-900

8. Bangalore (BLR) – San Francisco (SFO)
Distance : 13 982 km
Airline: Air India

10. New York (JFK) – Manila

The next flight to break the record for longest non-stop air travel is likely to be in 2025, when Qantas operates its non-stop route from New York to Sydney, 16,020 km which will last more than 20 hours. The Australian airline will offer space “welfare” on board its new Airbus A350-100 specially equipped to help travelers fight against jet lag.
