The Too Hotel: A Heavenly Escape in the Heart of Paris

Head in the clouds, it’s a rare sight that encompasses the Sacré Coeur and the Eiffel Tower: the Too Hotel, a new establishment which has just opened in the 13th arrondissement of Paris is a daydream. We tested!

« The Too Hotel offers a heavenly break, the feeling of being so high that all of Paris belongs to us. This fascinating view brings intense joy, the feeling of being transported on a magical adventure. says Laurent Taïeb, creator of the Too Hotel.

Downtown Paris

It takes half an hour by metro to reach the hotel from the center of Paris. At first glance, one wonders what one is doing there. Close to the Cité de la Mode et du Design or the Jardin des Plantes, the 13th arrondissement is perhaps little known to tourists but deserves to be visited. Here, we are far from Haussmannian buildings, stone gives way to concrete, street art and innovative constructions. Among these are the Duo Towers by Jean Nouvel, the two highest after the Eiffel Tower and the Montparnasse Tower. True architectural feats, they audaciously overlook the city and offer the most beautiful panorama of the City of Lights. The one that houses the Too Hotel (which starts at 80m high!) is also equipped with a large terrace facing the Seine and historic Paris.

The creator of the project, Laurent Taïeb (who has already imagined Madame Rêve, Kong, Le café du Trésor, Lo Sushi…) called on the famous designer Philippe Starck to imagine an enchanting decor and add a poetic dimension to the project. The latter compares the hotel to a castle in the clouds:

« It’s the story of a castle suspended above Paris, not really on Earth anymore, a place where anything can happen. As it is levitating, it induces a euphoric effect; inside, you are more beautiful, more in love, more creative. This castle is filled with energy, dreams, love, desires, intelligence and laughter. He flies up there, where the weather is nice, where the rare oxygen stuns. Of course, as in all castles, mysterious things happen there, always very poetic. Some chairs have lights on their backs. In case of bad weather, the ceiling illuminates the clouds with gold. The mirrors are scratched as if we had tried to find out what was going on in the room. This castle is full of surprises, but the biggest of all is that it’s in the clouds. It flies over major cities. At the moment, they say he is in Paris. But at the end of the evening, you can see Tokyo, Los Angeles, or other big cities of the world. »

The strength of experience

Why does the idea of getting high always add a bit of magic to the moment? This is undoubtedly because it exacerbates ambiguities: the feeling of power and intimacy mix with sensations of omnipotence and voyeurism, of immensity, of vertigo and the impression of being very small, almost invisible. . When you get to your room, there’s no need to close the curtains. Each of them is “with a view”, on the Eiffel Tower, on the Seine, on Notre-Dame. We are especially struck by the light that floods the room, entirely designed to face the sky. Unlike other Parisian hotels, the Too is generous in terms of space. We breathe, we turn around the central bed (placed in the heart of the room to give a feeling of weightlessness), we take advantage of a bathtub on feet, a corner office. The colors are warm and the furniture friendly. Small animals hide in the corners and bring a certain magic.

Le Too TacTac, a bar (haut) why

We never get tired of rooftops! And since the stay offers us a complete immersion in the clouds, it’s time to go out for some fresh air! From here we overlook the city and enjoy a friendly menu of small snacks and delicious cocktails from 4 p.m. We love its heterogeneous decor which mixes vintage elements, carpets inside and colored stone tables outside. Special mention for the delicious mocktails.

Le Too Chill

The wellness part is probably not the major asset of the hotel. The spa only consists of two treatment cabins, a fitness room and a sauna. We appreciate the fact that it is associated with the Ulé brand, a French brand that cultivates its own varieties of plants at the gates of Paris. The space is not intended for strolling around in a bathrobe according to our thermal desires, we prefer to book specific treatments there to come and relax. And if we still feel like chilling: go to the terrace where the jacuzzi on the 17th floor awaits us, in the middle of the plants!

Le Too Restaurant

This is undoubtedly the high point of the stay. After being surprised by the architecture of the place, the view from the room, the cocktail on the rooftop, the jacuzzi in the air, it is our taste buds that have an appointment in seventh heaven. At 100 meters high, the restaurant established in a glass cube multiplies the play of light with on the one hand a ceiling made of gold bars, lights embedded in the floor, but also certain points of light randomly embedded in the furniture. which create a spectacular setting. To add a dose of gigantism, the surrealist works of Pierre Monestier (to the tunes of Dali and Magritte) bring the colors to this set with bronze shades. Each table has a breathtaking view of the sunset.

The spectacular restaurant

And on the plate? Chef Benjamin Six has composed a fusion menu that revisits classics from around the world with always a touch of fantasy, such as fried crab tacos or braised pork belly, glazed with honey: truly orgasmic! And so much the better, because we’re going back the next day for breakfast!

For a very competitive price in Paris (from €228/night), the Too Hotel offers a complete luxurious experience, a total change of scenery, worthy of the great skyscrapers in the world. We go there to experience the spectacular and challenge all our senses during an exhilarating and relaxing stay. At 1:15 by Thalys from Brussels, the game is clearly worth the candle.
