The Tina Turner Musical returns to New York this fall

Stage Entertainment announced that the musical Tina Turner is reportedly returning to New York at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater starting October 8, 2021.

Tina Turner said, “I am so proud that our show can reopen on Broadway. I remember the incredible reception it received on its opening night. It was like I was back at home. I hope that my story, my life, will be a source of inspiration and remind us that our capacity for resilience is immense. “

Musical comedy Tina Turner is directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!). The libretto is by Katori Hall, Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. The show chronicles the life of legendary singer Tina Turner and the struggles she had to fight against racism and sexism before establishing herself as the Queen of Rock n ‘Roll. Tina Turner The Musical was nominated in 3 categories for the Oliver Awards and one won one. The musical was also nominated in 12 categories at the 2020 Tony Awards. The results have yet to be released.

The show premiered in London at the Aldwych Theater in 2018. In 2019 a production was launched in Hamburg and another in New York. In 2020, a Dutch production starts in Utrecht. The story of the show shouldn’t end there as a Madrid production is also set to debut in the fall of 2021.
