The Timely Cancer Detection program evaluates nearly 5,000 people in four months

Santo Domingo. – In just four months, the Timely Cancer Detection program assisted 4,665 people, of which 69 were diagnosed positively and 588 received follow-up for some type of finding.

The program is sponsored by the first lady Raquel Arbaje, the National Health Service (SNS) and the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa), under the Uniendo Voluntades initiative.

Of the people attended, 2,158 underwent breast examinations, resulting in eight positive; 656 prostate, with five positive and 1,851 cervical cancer, of which 56 received a positive diagnosis.

During October, declared Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the first lady, the SNS and SeNaSa will redouble their efforts to strengthen cancer prevention in both men and women.

The first lady expressed that the project is part of her Uniendo Voluntades initiative, which aims for women and men to put prevention into practice to guarantee their health.

Meanwhile, the director of the SNS, Dr. Mario Lama, indicated that the care is free in the prioritized hospitals, which have been strengthened to guarantee the program’s services in a timely and quality manner.

While the executive director of SeNaSa, Dr. Santiago Hazim, drew attention to the increase in the country of breast cancer in women under 45 years of age, and urged the female population to take advantage of the opportunity to undergo medical checkups. free.

The program

The Timely Cancer Detection Program, with its motto Check Yourself !, offers free medical care for the detection of breast, prostate and cervical cancer, including laboratory tests, imaging studies, hospitalization when required, medical procedures, gynecological and oncology consultations, in addition to treatment according to the finding.

Health centers

The priority hospitals for the execution of the program are the Maternity Reynaldo Almánzar, Maternal Infant Santo Socorro, the Dominican Woman, Maternity Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia and the National Cancer Institute (INCART), in Santo Domingo.

In addition, the Jaime Mota de Barahona; General and Specialties Our Lady of Altagracia (HGENSA) in Higüey; Dr. Luis Morillo King in La Vega and resident Estrella Ureña, in Santiago.

Mobile units

During the month of October, the program will hold national days for the prevention of breast cancer, in three mobile units with mammographers, sonographers and a medical team made up of radiological technicians, nurses, general practitioners and medical auditors, to ensure health care for the most vulnerable population in the country.

The operation will take place every weekend in October. On the 9th and 10th in Pedernales, Independencia and Bahoruco; 16 and 17 in Montecristi, Dajabón and Santiago Rodríguez; 25 and 26 in Higüey, El Seibo and Hato Mayor; and the 30 and 31 in Samaná, Nagua and Moca.

In addition, it will collaborate with the Ministry of Defense by sending mobile units to provide support in the prevention sessions that will be held in the Santo Domingo, La Romana and Peravia provinces.
