The time has come to save Tunisia (Kamel Akrout)

25-05-2021

The retired Admiral, Kamel Akrout, calls this Tuesday, May 25, for the rescue of the country, in the face of “the absence of any clues for reform”, and at a time when “the heads of state institutions are busy by marginal conflicts to the detriment of the supreme interest of the nation and the people ”.

In a post on his Facebook page, in the form of a statement to public opinion, Kamel Akrout warns of the deterioration of the general situation in the country, ten years after the revolution.

He considers that “Tunisia has moved to a formal democracy, with a new constitution and a political system generating power crises, and a sterile electoral system having given rise to a political class, whose concern is to monopolize power without achievements ”.

Despite the successful holding of six elections, the failure accompanied the action of most governments, having drowned the country in counterproductive debt, mortgaged its future, and leaving it facing the unknown, in the presence of a parliament lacking credibility, and occupied by marginal conflicts, he laments.

The retired admiral points to “the continued degradation of the purchasing power of the citizen, and the rapid collapse of economic and financial indicators, a situation that the coronavirus pandemic has complicated”, as well as “the beginning of the dismantling of attributes and institutions of the State ”.

And to continue: The hour of the rescue has sounded, the duty calls us all, among those who reject the device of the failure, the mediocrity and the political scam, from all the regions of the country as from abroad , to close ranks and join forces to:

* Our right to a global and transparent inventory of the various sectors, in particular public finances;

* Free the country from the despotism of certain parties, which abuse its means according to the logic of booty, and monopolize the national decision, and restore sovereignty to the people to freely express their will;

* Get Tunisia out of the quagmire of failure, chaos and corruption, through the application of the law on all.

“What happened to the situation, ten years after methodical destruction, amid the spread of phenomena of societal violence, the exacerbation of hate speech, and religious extremism, the source of terrorism … Is not our destiny, ”he says.

The fact that the current system continues to control the future of the country increases the high price that we have to pay on a daily basis, which prompts us to call on Tunisians, national political and societal forces to assume their responsibility and to stand up. unite to stop the bleeding and get the country out of the rut, he concludes in substance.
