The time has come: speed reduction to 100 kilometers per hour officially NOW

As of Friday, the new speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour has already started on a number of roads in the Netherlands. Rijkswaterstaat is still working until March 16 to place extra signs on all roads or to remove tape.

Everywhere in the Netherlands, the speed is reduced to 100 kilometers per hour between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. In the evening and night driving is still possible at a speed of 130 kilometers per hour, where this was previously permitted.

The reduction of the speed limit applies from the moment the sign is there. As soon as the signs are visible, motorists can therefore already be fined if they do not comply with the speed limit.

The government decided to slow down in November last year due to nitrogen emissions and precipitation. The measure will give construction more room to resume projects.

In total, more than four thousand signs have to be adapted. The entire operation costs 19 million euros.
