The Time artist explained why he flooded the Oval Office with Trump – 2024-05-11 08:53:56

/ world today news/ On the new cover of Time magazine, the Oval Office is flooded, and Donald Trump is holding on to the surface of the water above the presidential chair. According to the author of the work, artist Tim O’Brien, who had “previously done two more covers in this series, after the scandals that hit the White House, putting Trump behind the table “would be too funny, or perhaps scary.”

For the issue of September 3, 2018, Time’s editors have prepared for their readers something special and partly already familiar. Artist Tim O’Brien, who has been creating covers for the magazine for almost 30 years, presented his third work in the series featuring President Donald Trump in the Oval Office.

As noted by Time, for the last week the American leader has to face a whole range of new problems. Thus, among other things, the president’s former lawyer said that during the 2016 election campaign, the president paid women through him to remain silent about their relationships with the future leader.

If on the first two covers the head of the White House is depicted sitting behind the desk, despite the strong wind raging around him, symbolizing all the problems of his presidency, then in the new work the artist reflects the doubts about whether Trump will remain in office. On the third cover, titled In Deep, the Oval Office is virtually completely flooded, with the president standing on the surface of the water above his desk. “I thought that if we saw him in the armchair like before, it would be too funny or maybe scary. But if he’s on the surface, it looks like he’s still fighting despite the deepening issues.”commented O’Brien.

As the artist recalls, when he worked on the first cover of this series in February 2017, he thought that all the chaos of Donald Trump’s presidency would not last long.

But as the White House is flooded with wave after wave of scandalous news, O’Brien concludes that the storm metaphor is too mild.
