The Timau Observatory will be completed in February and will become Big Version Bosscha

Jakarta, CNNI Indonesia

Development Timau National ObservatoryEast Nusa Tenggara, expected to be completed in February 2023. What stumbling block construction?

Previously, the construction of the National Observatory (obnas) was expected to be completed in 2022.

“Now that the telescope has arrived in Surabaya, it must be on the road in Kupang,” said National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Aeronautics and Space Research Organization head Robertus Heru CNNIndonesia.comMonday (10/1).

“It will technically be finished by the end of February,” he continued.

He explained that when the telescope’s mirror arrives in Timau, it will immediately undergo calibration, which is expected to be completed by the end of January.

“The telescope is big and you have to take it apart first. That’s all mirror yes, not a lens like SLR, so mirror-it consists of several parts, first removed and then reinstalled in Timau,” he said.

According to Robertus, the diameter of the Japanese manufacturer’s binoculars is 3.8 meters. The larger the diameter, the greater the results of star vision that previously only seemed dim.

He further explained that this building has similarities to the Bosscha Observatory in Bandung, West Java.

“The building will later look like the Bosscha Observatory, but the telescope is much larger than the Bosscha one. This will be the largest in Southeast Asia,” he said.

Why doesn’t it hit?

Robertus revealed that the Covid-19 pandemic was one of the reasons for the stall in the construction of the Observatory. As a result, delivery to technical problems will become development constraints in 2020.

Furthermore, limited access to observatory materials is also a limiting factor.

“Before the small roads and small bridges could not be crossed by the trucks that transported them dome (dome). It is necessary tower cranethat’s all tower crane-must be transported by a large truck. We are update roads and bridges,” he explained.

Previously, Plt. National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Aeronautics and Space Research Organization head Erna Sri Adiningsih explained that progress in building telescopes in Japan reached 93.47 percent in 2022 .

Meanwhile, the construction progress of the building where the telescope will be installed has reached 92.63 percent.

“The process of attaching the dome and telescope to the telescope building uses a 30-50 ton crane. After the telescope is installed, the next stage is the installation construction and testing of the 3.8-meter telescope he said, December 2021, quoted by the website BRIN.

With this achievement, Emanuel Sungging Mumpuni, Plt. The head of the BRIN Space Science Center estimates that the Timau National Observatory can operate from 2022.

“We may start operating in 2022, but we really hope that the main telescope with 3.8-meter optics can be completed and completed in 2022,” he said.

The locality of Obnas is located in a protected forest area on the slopes of Mount Timau at an altitude of approximately 1,300 meters above sea level.

Obnas area is adjacent to Bitobe village which is included in Amfoang central district. Besides this, there are also Honuk Village and Faumes Village which are located in Amfoang Barat Laut District area which have been allotted for the construction of Timau National Observatory.
