PRIANGAN ZONE – Saber-toothed paint tiger that lived 9 million years ago in North America identified successfully.
The tiger weighs about 600 pounds (272 kg) and is capable of preying on a victim that is 10 times its body.
Researchers from the United States named this wild cat Machairodus lahaishupup in honor of the Cayuse people, where this cat specimen was found.

In the ancient language of Cayuse, ‘Laháyis Húpup’ means ancient wild cat, while ‘Machairodus’ is a genus of the sword tiger of North America, Africa and Eurasia.
The research team believes that this new species existed at the very beginning the evolution of the sword tiger, but still needs further research.
M. lahayishupup is also related to Smilodon, the most widely known type of sword tiger, which became extinct around 10,000 years ago.

This new species was identified by its large forelimbs, a feature possessed by beasts of this kind to subdue their prey.
