The Three Musketeers Movie Sequel Review: A Sneak Peek at the French Adaptation’s Epic Climax in Czech Cinemas

The epic climax of the French adaptation of the novel The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas will be released in Czech cinemas in mid-December, but we already had the opportunity an image to watch as part of the closing ceremony of this year’s French Film Festival in Prague’s Lucerne. What do we say about the expected second part of the famous story?

As KarelR saw it:

I was very much looking forward to it, and great satisfaction prevails. The second installment of The Musketeers is as well shot and acted as the first, with Eva Green reigning as expected. Whether she’s seducing poor D’Artagnan or wielding a cord, there’s no doubt that she was born to play Milady. At the same time, director Martin Bourboulon expects the maximum not only from her, but also from the other actors, from the locations and from the whole concept, as he skilfully meanders in the footsteps of Dumas’s novel.

It creates a real drama out of many situations thanks to the fact that it plays with the audience’s expectations, and the big currency is, of course, the action, which is just as great as last time. With the Musketeers “Black Ops action” I even remembered Skála, all the more so because the final third doesn’t offer any major melee in addition to crushing emotions. The whole ending is the biggest problem because… the second part feels a bit like the middle part of the trilogy, which I honestly didn’t expect at all. Although almost everything is closed, a few lines could still use some retelling, and if a threesome doesn’t miraculously happen, I’ll actually be sad. I would easily spend much more time in this carefully constructed world.

As seen by_From:

The new adaptation of The Three Musketeers by director Martin Bourboulon struck like a bolt from the blue this year, mainly because I didn’t know about it before. In front of the camera and behind it, quite possibly the best that French cinematography can offer at the moment came together, and the result was a thrilling and unexpectedly action-packed, but at the same time superbly acted and written adventure spectacle, which the duo (filmed simultaneously) royally follows up.

The 115-minute second part, devoted especially to the character of Milady with the face of the divine Eva Green (an incredible animal actress) did not disappoint even despite high expectations, the story about the conspiracy at the French court culminates in it in a way that offers plenty of space for once again a tangible physical action, but this time more ready emotions. The camera is again wonderfully dynamic, the roaring soundtrack drives the story forward and the characters don’t stop here for even a second, and even when they do, these moments are beautifully engaging. And just like last time, there is also humor and perspective.

The first one may have had a slightly tighter plot, in this one, the second one, including the finale, is a bit more open (prepare for a shock) and maybe even more shorthand. As with the first film, I left the theater feeling like I could easily sit there with the characters in that world for another hour. In short, the second installment of the new Musketeers is just as absorbing as the first part, in some ways a little better, in others a little worse, but as a whole excellent, and for the younger generation it can easily be the definitive adaptation of Dumas’s work. I tip my hat and look forward to repeated viewings.

Expect a review in the next few days. You can find a review of the number one here.
