Liu Huanrong was born in a military dependent village in Taichung in 1957. His father was a soldier and his mother set up a fruit stall. There were often gangsters who would cause trouble and frequently smashed the stall. Liu felt very unfair and joined the “Little Plum Blossom Gang” and “Beijing Gang” composed of children from the military dependent village. Gangs such as the “Tuen Circle Gang” were later sent to a juvenile detention center. On January 26, 1986, Liu Huanrong was arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for being involved in a drug trafficking case. In March of the same year, he was extradited to Taiwan for trial.
Liu Huanrong completely changed in prison, began to learn painting, and donated 39 paintings to the Women’s Rescue Foundation for charity. Despite this, Liu Huanrong was eventually sentenced to death.
