The manufacturer of seamless tubes Vallourec announced on Wednesday 18 November the elimination of a total of around 1,050 jobs worldwide, including 350 in France, 200 in Germany and 500 in Brazil, to “strengthen the competitiveness” of the group in a context of declining activity.
The group’s turnover has dropped by a third in the third trimester, to 716 million euros, while the net loss widened slightly to 69 million euros, against 60 million a year earlier.
The Côte-d’Or spared by this restructuring plan
In Côte-d’Or, the CGT confirms having learned of this restructuring plan envisaged by the group’s management. Its representative specifies that neither the two sites of Montbard, nor that of Venarey-les-Laumes are not affected by these job cuts. In the department, approximately 500 people work at Vallourec.
Vallourec intends to close near Rouen and has presented a backup plan in the North. Job cuts are also being considered at the group’s headquarters.
