The threat of closure of an admissions unit hangs over the Édouard Toulouse hospital

The Sud Santé 13 union has raised the alarm regarding the potential closure of the “la Nef” hospitalization unit, located in the Édouard Toulouse center, in the 15th arrondissement, reports The Marseillaise. This full-time patient admission unit is located in building A of the hospital center entirely dedicated to mental health and psychiatry. The Édouard Toulouse hospital center covers all the districts located in the north and city center of Marseille, as well as the municipalities of Septèmes-les-Vallons and Pennes-Mirabeau.

In a press release, the organization explained that it had attended “a worrying reduction in reception capacity, exceeding 25% in just four years. This trend continues with the prospect of a new closure that could further aggravate the difficulties of access to care for residents of the northern districts of Marseille.” According to a union representative, the unit’s capacity has dropped from 140 beds in 1994 to 44 today. Contacted by telephone, Sud Santé Secretary General Kader Benayed explained that this potential closure would follow “at the departure of the doctor who managed the Nef unit”leading to the “restructuring of the two units of 22 beds each into one.” The direction would have been given “until the end of September” to find a solution. Sud Santé also indicated that it had made a “open letter to the elected representatives of the Republic” to alert them to the situation. The union has called for a gathering in front of the hospital on September 10 at 1:30 p.m.
