KONTAN.CO.ID – WASHINGTON. The spike in coronavirus cases continues to occur in the United States. Even now, Texas is the first state to surpass 1 million cases of the corona virus (Covid-19) in the US on Saturday (7/11).
As is known, the US is back fighting against the third wave of new infections and recorded more than 100,000 new infections three times in less than a week.
According to Reuters calculations, for Texas, the jump in new cases in the past week mainly came from the cities of Harris, Dallas and El Paso. The surge is weighing on medical facilities, with the city of El Paso turning a convention center into a field hospital.
If Texas were a country, it would be the tenth most affected country in the world for the total Covid-19 cases. Given, the state has added about 8,000 new cases on average a day during the past week.
Texas, which accounts for more than 10% of total US cases, reported the largest number of new cases in the US last week and is followed by the state of Illinois, which has half of the people.

California, which was the first US state to surpass 600,000 Covid-19 cases in August, is currently lagging behind Texas in the number of infections and deaths.
The US’s most populous state has added about 30,000 cases in the past seven days, and has reported more than 950,000 cases of the coronavirus.
Los Angeles County in California, which carries 33% of the state’s caseload, has so far recorded the highest number of deaths at 7,118 on November 5.
With the holiday season and cold weather approaching, health officials have stepped up their guard to contain a spike in cases in recent weeks.
