The third division steno: 1860 worse than ever

After just two match days, a first trend can be seen at the top of the third division: the favorites Dynamo Dresden, Arminia Bielefeld and SV Sandhausen are at the top with the maximum yield – and are surprisingly joined by Erzgebirge Aue, who also have six points after their 1-0 win at second division relegated team VfL Osnabrück and are playing very maturely. “We mustn’t start exaggerating now,” said Aue coach Pavel Dotchev after the away win: “This is a marathon. We still have a long way to go.”

Rot Weiß Essen secured their first win of the season with a 3:1 victory over second division reserve team Hannover 96. Lucas Brumme scored a brace. This triumph was also important for former Löwen manager Marc Pfeifer in another position for the old champions.

1. FC Saarbrücken, which started the season with a 1-0 win at 1860 Munich, suffered an unfortunate 0-1 defeat against SV Sandhausen yesterday. The goal of the day was scored by former Nuremberg player Dominic Baumann with a powerful header in the 64th minute.

The VfB Stuttgart youth team, who are by no means playing out of this world, gave the ambitious Lions a lesson with their 3-1 victory, and they are now under a lot of pressure. The Blues have never had a worse start to their third league campaign: after the first two games they have zero points on their account. That has never happened before.

Stuttgart captain Dominik Nothnagel, whose 3-0 goal from 60 meters was a “sensational” goal, described his historic goal to MagentaSport as follows: “I wouldn’t say that the goal was intentional. But we knew that the 1860 goalkeeper really wanted to play. He definitely has his footballing qualities, but it also carries risks.”
